Commentary
Commentary
1st Shot - The first shot is going to be an establishing shot of the setting. We chose to start with an establishing shot because we don’t want to give the main plot away and also because we thought it was an interesting and unique way to start the opening scene. There will be off screen sound of an alarm in the background but the audience can only hear the source but cannot see it.
2nd Shot - The second shot will be a cut-in onto the alarm with onscreen sound so the audience can hear and see where the sound of source is coming from. During the same shot there will be a close up of a hand on top of the alarm to reset the alarm.
3rd Shot - The third shot will be a panning shot of the top of the alarm after the man has pressed it. During this shot Film titles will appear on top of the alarm saying the ‘Directors Name’ We thought this will be an interesting way for the film title to appear because it links and also to keep up with the continuity,
4th Shot – The fourth shot will be a long shot of the man getting up from bed. We chose a long shot so the audience can visualize the setting. There will also be use of diagetic sound where the man yawns because he is tired. There will also be use of non- diagetic sound playing in the background starting from this scene. Film titles will appear on the bed the guy is sitting on (Actors name)
5th Shot – The fifth shot will be a tracking shot following the man as he goes to the bathroom. We chose a tracking shot so the audience will feel a part of the scene as he is walking.
6th Shot – The sixth shot will be an over the shoulder of the man as he is looking at himself through the mirror. Another film title will appear through the reflection of the mirror. There will also be diagetic sound of water as turns the tap on..
7th Shot – The seventh shot will be a wide shot of his room as he opens his wardrobe looking for something to wear for work. Film titles will appear on the side of the wardrobe to keep it continuous. Next to his wardrobe there is window.
8th Shot – The 8th shot will be a cut away to the window which is seen in the seventh shot. The cut away of the window is show a sense of mystery that something is going to appear through it.
9th Shot – The ninth shot will be long shot of the man’s neighbour which is seen through the cut away from the window. We chose to show his neighbour because that can give the audience a sense of his personality or maybe the kind of guy he is.
10th Shot – The tenth shot will be a slow ’blurred’ zoom out back into the room the man was in.
11th Shot – The eleventh shot will be a slow tilt of the man toes upwards to show what he has decided to wear to work. We chose the tilt because it gives the audience sense of anxiety and excitement of what is about to happen.
12th Shot – The next shot will be another tracking shot of him walking out of his room after he’s worn his attire and ‘suited and booted’. You will also see a glimpse of stairs to show that he is going to walk down the stairs.
13th Shot – The thirteenth shot will be a cut in of just his feet going down the stairs (going to the kitchen) as he is walking there is diagetic sound of his footsteps. In the background there will also be off-screen sound of the radio playing downstairs with a tragic news report. The reason why there is off-screen sound of the radio playing is to alert the audience because the audience can not see where the sound is coming from. On the side of the stairs film titles will appear, this is again to link titles with objects and to keep flow of the scenes. (Radio still playing)
14th Shot - The next Shot will be an over the shoulder shot of him already in the kitchen, as he is making a cup of tea. The will be diagetic sound of him pouring milk into the mug. As he is making the cup of tea there will be a glimpse of his watch shown throughout. (Radio still playing)
15th Shot - The next shot will be a cut in onto his watch displaying the time. This is to grab the audience attention letting them know there is some kind of urgent situation. (Radio still playing)
16th Shot – The sixteenth shot will be a close up of his facial expression after seeing the time. The man looks shocked and is rushed. We chose the close up so the audience can sympathise and feel an emotion towards the man. (Radio still playing)
17th Shot – The next shot will be a tracking tilt of the man dropping his cup of tea. As this is going on there will off screen sound of the mug smashing but the audience can not see it smash onto the floor, on the other hand diagetic sound will be used so the audience and character can hear. (Radio pauses)
18th Shot - The eighteenth shot will be an extreme close of the pieces and stains on the floor from which the man had dropped. The radio stops playing and then a fast-paced parallel sound begins, the sound is used to contrast with the situation and emotions the character is feeling. Film titles will appear next to the spillages and the pieces of the mug.
19th Shot – The next shot will be tracking shot as he quickly exits out of his house. The fast paced sound is currently still playing as he exits.
20th Shot - The twentieth shot will be a long aerial establishing shot of buildings and next to them his work place. Film titles will appear on the front of the buildings to let the audience know that the building will play an important role in the film. The fast-paced sound will slowly fade until it eventually stops playing and a triumphant sound will foreshadow it.
21st Shot – The final shot will be a long shot of him entering a boardroom meeting as he comes in late so everyone in the meeting stares at him. The triumphant sound stops and only use of diagetic sound as he opens the door. There will be a mid shot of him apologising because of his late punctuality. The opening scene will end as he says “sorry I woke up late” the reason why we chose to end it this way is because it is very effective because of the on-line speech, this also shows the audience what type of person the character is and also shows quite a humorous side to him. The title of the film will appear at the bottom in bold after he says he’s speech.

Feedback
Notes -
Stewart gave us feedback for us to improve our original storyboard. These are the feedbacks.
- We should start with slight pan and the first should be a wide shot
-Second shot more to the characters level
-Angle camera more to the side, so show all the mirror and a little bit of the characters face
- Show him in a different angle brushing his teeth
- So as he is picking out what to wear he peeks throughout the window, shot 8, shot 9, shot 10 should not be included, but still include the shots for backup.
-We should show a hint of our character wearing a super hero gadget or costume. e.g. as he wears his suit he puts on his superhero costume underneath.
- Aso need a lot of people with suits for the board meeting
-And for the 4th shot a long shot of him getting up from bed

Story line Treatment
Jamal, a normal guy whose occupation is a computer salesman finds himself living a double life. Jamal is a computer geek that loves anything involving computers, he still lives his with his family (he is 22) because he is afraid of living by himself.
Jamal used to get bullied in secondary because of his appearance and personality. He wore old grey cardigans with denim skinny jeans. Jamal acted like he didnt care but deep down it hurt him.
Jamal is a lean tall figure far from the " toned", muscular type gets himself into a sticky situation when he is casually walking home from work and ends up on the way accidentally barging into a mun preferablly aged in his middle 30's. The man was muscular, well physiqued and very tall (about 6"5"). Jamal was teriifed because he couldnt defend himself all because of his lack of cofidence and masculinarity. Jamal automatically stuttered because the unhappy emotions the man was showing. The man didnt speak but unexpectedely attempted to punch Jamal, the punch was a s fast as sound could travel. This would have been the end fornn Jamal but as the punch was about to hit him, Jamal's supeerhuman reactions saved him as he held the punch and reversed it. The man couldnt beleieve what had just happen and nor could Jamal. The bulky man was in shock and ran the other way. Jamal then wne thome that night to analyse himself, he stared at his knuckles, there was a dark shaded puple colour bruis enuckles, this was strange because the bruise was not there before and he surely knew he didnt harm the bulky man. This was the night Jamal found his super-human abilities. This was the nigtht which changed Jamals life forever.

Final Idea Treatment
Me and my group chose this final idea because it was an interesting story that we could build on and also contained more features that would fit in our genre. The genre we chose was an action adventure. We chose action adventure because it was a common and popular genre to analyse about and as a group we were familiar with the genre.
This follows our genre conventions because it contains all the codes and and convention you would expect from the genre. The convention we included in our action adventure were to have a stereotypical location such as urban areas with mass crowd because it brings emotional feelings on the audience and also makes the story line interesting because the audience gets to see more characters. We also picked characters such as a Hero, Villain and a Damsel in distress because those character are very cliche in action adventure films so we link back to our themes of genre. Our film also includes props such as super gadgets to make the story line interesting and also because it the codes and convention the genre will appeal to. We also added cool stunts because this will grab the attention of someone who was to watch our film. Cool stunts would appeal to boys aged between 12 to 18 because they like to see characters life in jeopardy and also because it emotionally brings joy, suspense and anxiety. These key features follows our genre convention.
Our main target audience for our story would be especially for boys aged 12+. This is because it has key conventions boys aged from 12 onwards would like to watch such as cool gadgets, violence, stunts, tense story line and versatile characters. We also researched that the 54%males watch action adventure and 46% are females. Our story will also appeal to female kids the same age because we included a "Damsel in distress" character based which is briefly the female in the story gets kidnapped by the villains and is left stranded waiting for a hero to come rescue her, which is very cliche.

Spiderman - Opening Sequence
Spider-man - Opening Sequence
The opening scene is very interesting. This is because it opens with a 3D like of a bright red spider web which relates to the theme of spider man because spiders produce webs. This is what i am expected to see in this genre of film. The opening scene does not change throughout the titles until its finished then the film begins. The sound used in the opening scene is an upbeat victorious sound this contrasts with the theme of the film, which also makes the sound parralel to the scene. This is unique because during the opening scene there are no characters, location or props which does not give the start of the film away. The disadvantage of the this opening scene is that it is not exciting or eye catching because it just a bright red spider web rotating.
The opening sequence has been used for this particular film because the clip/ image of the opening sequence relates to the theme of spider man by showing a spiderweb as opening scene the audience instantly knows what they are going to see or can also remind them of what they are going to see.
Although the idea of using the spiderweb as a opening sequence i find it interesting and yet effective because of the way it relates to theme and genre of the film.
The appearance of the titles are very interesting because as the camera zooms and rotates into the spiderweb a shone of light appears in a shape of a "S" to represent Spider man. Then the titles appear in a light blue form which is very effective. Near the end of the opening title, the main title of the film appears in silver and on top of it is a miniature spider crawling on top of it. I fount that very effective.
The production company behind this is Columbia Pictures, The production company is in charge of the the profit the film make and the gross the make worldwide.
The audience for this opening scene will attract children aged 12 and over. This is because of the fast paced intro and fantastic edits such as fades, dissolve, fade in and fade out.
The opening scene keeps the the audience interest by having a fast paced sound which makes the audience feel some anxiety and suspense before the film has started making them feel attached to the film. The special effect used in the opening scene was a 3D style opening of a spiderweb. The other special effect used was the small animated spider on top of the main title. This has been used to make it seem more interesting and more appealing towards the main target audience.

Johnny English - Opening Sequence
Johnny English- Opening Sequence
The opening sequence uses the conventions i would expect from this genre. Its start off with a upbeat non diagetic sound which contrasts with the personality of Johnny English who is a comical secret agent spy.The sound used is parralel with his actions because its starts off from Johnny English entering his bathroom in a funny way, as he enters he pretends he is also holding a gun which makes the opening scene seem funny because he is an elderly man who is acting like a child. The body language of Johnny English throughout the opening scenes portray him as a funny character that does not take his job seriously. This instantly shows us the audience what we are going to expect from the rest of the film. Johnny English holds a prop which is a gun. this prop is commonly used in this type of genre (Action adventure)
This opening scene has been used for this particular film to remind the audience what is to expect from the rest of the film. Because this film is an action/comedy they use those genres to link it with the opening scene. This opening scene has also been used to capture our attention because it starts off with a funny opening scene.
The key ideas that interest me is the way they have linked the opening scene into the start off the film. E.g. the opening scene is an introduction to Johnny English's daily regime such as dressing up, having a bath and going to work. This way of starting an opening scene interested me a lot because of uniqueness and simplicity.
The appearance of the titles are very interesting and unique. For people that have watched Johnny English they know that he is a secret agent that saves his country which is Great Britain. The title starts with a metallic silver start which then fades into the Union Jack colours which are blue, red and white, which is really effective because it then relates to theme and conventions of the film.
Johnny English is a secret agent that represents his country and the Majesty Queen. Because of the stereotypical statements that secret agents are serious and people who take their jobs seriously and discrete. Johnny English is totally the opposite, which challenges the stereotype and makes us the audience see it in a different perspective.
Universal Pictures is behind this film. This is relevant because they distribute films and are in charge of the gross and profit of the film.
The ideal audience for this opening sequence would be for a family audience because of the mild peril and funny humour which would be definetly ideal for families because they can laugh together and enjoy.
The opening sequence keeps the audience interest because of its humorous opening of Johnny English embarrassing himself throughout the opening scene. Because of its impact opener the audience is instantly "glued to keep on watching.
The special effect used is are bright highlighted borders that fade in and out when the titles appear. This makes opening scene look more efficient and unique.

Rush Hour 3- Opening Sequence
Year 12 Production- Opening Sequence of A Film
Rush Hour 3- Opening Scene – Action/Comedy Genre
Rush Hour 3- Opening Scene – Action/Comedy Genre
TThe opening sequence of this film uses the conventions I would expect from this genre. This is because it starts with the main protagonist as a traffic warden singing and dancing to a diagetic sound playing through his headphones. You can also hear diagetic sounds in the background of the cars braking. The music we and the character hear is parallel with the characters actions because it matches with the situation making the scene more comical. The location of the opening scene is set in an urban city with mass crowd. This location is parallel with the genre of the film. During the opening scene there is an off-screen situation where we the audience can hear the sound but can not see the scene. E.g. of this is when I heard the sound of the cars braking but could not see where the source was coming from. This effect is used for continuity and verisimilitude.
Because this film is an action-comedy it starts with a comical and humorous start because it what we the audience expect from the film which uses the conventions very well. The director has also portrayed the main protagonist as a careless, funny and laid-back character so we the audience can feel interested to watch the rest of the film.
3. The key ideas which interest me the most is the way the opening sequence am portrayed e.g. starting with the main protagonist in an awkward situation, giving a sense of mystery of why he is portrayed like this.
TThe appearance of the titles in the opening scene is very subtle and plain. There is no major effects e.g. fade. The titles are on the right side highlighted in white. They might have been used like this to show the simplicity of the film or maybe to show the opening scene is what we should be focused on instead of the titles.
5. This opening scene shows that people who are traffic wardens can be seen as interesting, instead of being stereotyped as boring and known to be strict and serious, which the total opposite is shown in the opening scene played by the Chris Tucker (Protagonist)
6. The production company behind this film is called ‘New Line Cinema’ which is also the distributor of the film. The production company is important because they control the budget, gross and distribution.
T TThe audience for this opening sequence would be for someone who enjoys watching comedy or is into comical films. The audience for this opening sequence could be for someone who loves this genre of film or someone who like Chris Tucker.
8. This opening scene keeps the audience interested because it starts with an interesting opening story line which makes the audience feel at the edge of their seat. It also starts with the funniest protagonist of the two which instantly grabs the audience’s attention and makes them want to watch even more. The opening sequence also has Chris tucker dancing and singing in a comical way to show express and remind us of the genre of the film which will interest us to keep watching.
During this opening scene the only special effect used was CGI (Compute Generated Imagery) example was when near the end of the opening scene when the cars start to crash against each other because Chris Tucker is not paying attention. The special effect is when the cars crash.
